Farmhouse Refurbishment and Extension Scheme
Current rolling refurbishment scheme (9 farmhouses completed to date)
Value £881k (to date)
Anglesey County Council hold a stock of 80 tenanted Farms spread out across the Isle of Anglesey in need of serious refurbishment.
Most of the stock have not been modernised since the late 1970’s and in July 2011 Anglesey County Council initiated a rolling scheme of refurbishment over a three year period. The works are substantial in nature as it involves reducing the buildings to a bare masonry shell and reconstructing and extending so that they meet and exceed current requirements. The view is to carry out the works to make them maintenance free and last another 40 years before needing any major attention.
This project is a prime example of how a successful project can be constructed within a difficult and restrictive environment such as an operational farm. Careful and well planned segregation of the working areas from the movement of cattle and machinery was important, as was the retaining of facilities for the tenants, whom remained on site during the execution of the works.
4 Crosses Construction Ltd worked flexibly with the tenants to ensure a smooth and successful project and received a number of letters of appreciation from the tenants concerned. We have been advised that the next 25 properties will be released for tender from April 2012 onwards.
